I’ve had multiple family members and patients acquire COVID-19, and I feel getting the vaccine will help keep me healthy and those around me healthy, too. I was anxiously awaiting my turn to get vaccinated and was thrilled to find out I could get it the first day it was offered in Colorado Springs, on December 23. That was the best Christmas present! The good news is, the vaccines currently available do an excellent job at preventing serious COVID-19 illness and death. Go ahead and get whichever vaccine is available to you!

I got a call they needed help at Aurora Centrepoint clinic, which has urgent care. I’ve helped with inventory to make sure they have enough personal protective equipment and filled a manual for greeters with the most current information on COVID-19 testing. I think it’s really insightful to be in the clinic and have firsthand experience in what workers are dealing with. It feels good to be on the front line. I’ve worked in health care for 15 years. This is the biggest crisis we’ve ever had. The most important thing is fighting COVID-19 and keeping our members and our staff healthy.

Pharmacy employees are the unsung heroes you won't hear about on the news. We are filling twice as many prescriptions as we usually do. We’re running back and forth filling as fast as we can, and we go home completely exhausted. We wake up wondering: Is this the day we will be exposed to COVID-19? Will I expose my family? But we get up, come back in with a positive outlook knowing we need to do our part — that our patients are counting on us — counting on me — to be there for them. It keeps me going when patients say, ‘Thank you for being here. I appreciate you.’

I was a senior in in high school in 1997. I was a student athletic trainer on a two-time state championship winning football team, partnering with coaches, the head trainer and the team physician—I knew then I wanted to be involved in health care. I also learned what it took to be part of a high-performing team. Today, I’ve been at Kaiser Permanente for 15 years, 10 of those directly involved in the partnership. I have always been passionate that the people doing the work are the ones with the best ideas on how to improve it. The partnership has given me the opportunity and tools to help bring that passion to life in my work at KP.
